Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Full Day in Akagera National Park
Akagera National Park is situated on the Tanzanian border in eastern Rwanda. This park is currently under the management of African Parks, which has done an excellent job with conservation. Conflicts between people and the park used to be common, but they were resolved when a section of the park was fenced off and community tours were introduced, encouraging visitors to visit the communities and reaping the benefits. A number of mammal species can be found in Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s only Savannah park. These include lions, elephants, giraffes, hippos, kobs, zebras, bushbucks, waterbucks, and, most recently, black rhinos, which were brought from South Africa to make the park a big five park as it was many years ago. Numerous bird species can be found there in a variety of habitats, including as lakes, swamps, woodlands, and savannah.
