The 7 Days Primate Tracking Safari in Uganda is an amazing way to see some of the country’s most popular tourist destinations, such as Kibale Forest National Park, where you can track chimpanzees and take a nature walk through the Bigodi wetland sanctuary; the stunning Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you can see game and enjoy a refreshing boat cruise; and, lastly, the southwest region of the country, where you will trek the mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

There are more than 1500 chimpanzees in Kibale Forest National Park, which is located in western Uganda and is the best place to follow them. Established in 1993, this 795-square-kilometer National Park is home to over 70 mammal species, including 13 primate species, with chimpanzees being the most sought-after. In 1991, the 321 square kilometre Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwest Uganda was gazetted. This park is home to 350 kinds of interesting birds and more than 120 species of mammals, making it one of the four most popular places to go mountain gorilla trekking.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival – Entebbe International Airport.

A Judith Safaris tour guide will greet you and give you a briefing at Entebbe International Airport, the gateway to the stunning country of Uganda, before you are taken to Kampala, the capital. Arrive at the hotel that was reserved in advance for dinner and the night.

Accommodation: Kampala Sheraton Hotel, Kampala Serena Hotel, Fairway Hotel.

Day 2: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park.

After breakfast at the hotel, you will either meet your driver or guide or be picked up from the hotel for the five to six-hour drive to Kibale Forest National Park, the world’s primate capital, where you will be able to follow chimpanzees, the closest relatives of humans. This thrilling trip includes stopping at the enigmatic Nakayima tree and Fort Portal Town for lunch, as well as taking in the breathtaking vistas of the rich tea estates of Toro and Mubende Rocks. Proceed to Kibale Forest National Park’s Lodge for dinner and the night.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale – Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Prepare your trekking equipment and eat breakfast before meeting at the Kanyanchu Visitor Centre for a briefing. The ranger or guide will warn you of the chimps’ presence after an hour or three hours of walking at a slower pace. After spending an hour with these fascinating primates, have lunch at the Lodge. Check out of the Lodge after lunch and a brief nap, then head to Queen Elizabeth National Park for dinner and the night.

Day 4: Morning Game Drive – Afternoon Boat Cruise.

Wake up to the lovely sounds of the bush, eat breakfast, and then go on an early morning game drive where you will see Uganda Kobs, lions, leopards, buffaloes, topis, elephants, and warthogs, among other African animals. Exploring some of the park’s Crater Lakes and the various bird species that call Queen Elizabeth National Park home will also be part of the activity. Return to the Lodge to have lunch.

You will be treated to yet another unexpected wildlife sight at the channel’s banks, where Nile crocodiles and hippopotamus can be seen lounging along with aquatic birds, particularly African fish eagles and pelicans, during the afternoon boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel. To unwind, have dinner, and spend the night, retreat to the Loge.

Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

In order to fulfill your desire of seeing the endangered mountain gorillas, you will be moved to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park on day five. After breakfast, depart from the Lodge and begin your thrilling ride, which will be rewarded with breathtaking vistas of the Kigezi mountains. On the way to Bwindi, lunch will be served at Savannah Resort in Kihihi.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest.

After breakfast, prepare your trekking gear for the exciting gorilla expedition. Move to the Briefing point, where you will gather with your fellow trekkers for a briefing on the activity’s guidelines. Later, you will be driven to the trailhead, where you will embark on a journey with seven other trekkers, armed rangers, guides, and porters. After 1-4 hours, you will be directed to the designated gorilla family, who will be going about their regular activities.

Spend an hour interacting with them before returning to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. If you are not too tired, go for an optional evening walk; otherwise, relax at the Lodge.

Day 7: Return to Kampala – Departure.

Enjoy your breakfast, pack your belongings and check out of the Lodge to be transported to Kampala.
